Self Defense - An Introduction

Ever since I wrote my post on the high number of people in our house who've been targeted by muggers/teenagers on testosterone/potential rapists, I've got self defense on my mind. A reader suggested that I make a list of tips on how to not get mugged for our current/potential tenants. Which got me investigating.

Currently I'm reading "How to fight like a girl and win" by Lori Hartman Gervasi, and "Fearless - The Complete Personal Safety Guide for Women" by Paul Henry Danylewich. The first is to teach women to get women into a fighting state of mind - as women are conditioned to think of themselves as weak and incapable. The second offers practical tips on self defense. And then I discovered this excellent series of videos by Sensei Anthony Britton on Youtube on self defense.

There's a lot of info on the internet both good and bad on self defense tips and how not to get mugged. One comes from a cop on 'the best of Craigslist,' entitled, "Tips For Clueless People Who Get Mugged," which is both entertaining and enlightening.

One day soon, when I get more than a free minute, I will compile my own list of tips. Until then, check out these links and stay safe!
