Urban Gravestones Inspired Knitwear

From the urban gravestone, "In Memory Of SHELDON K. JOHNSON - 12-24-88 to 9-15-04," located on Gates and Tompkins.

From the urban gravestone, "In Memory of C_ke," on Myrtle between Tompkins and Throop.

Reader Mary Hauser, born in Minneapolis, once upon a time Brooklynite and now a fashion student in London, emailed me today to let me know she was using my photos of Urban Gravestones (btw, for the record, "urban gravestone" is a term I coined a couple of years ago - sorry, just had to toot my own horn for a second there as I was irked to discover that someone had credited the term to another blogger) in a collage. She didn't mention however that she also had created some knits inspired by the colours in those murals. Not to dismiss the meaning that those memorial murals had and still have for those whose loved ones died, but hey, they're great art too. I have yet to see the collage but judging by the rest of the stuff on her website, it should be interesting.
